The market is concerned about Donald Trump's campaign promise to impose a comprehensive 60% tariff on goods imported from China if he takes office again.

Mo Ji, Chief China/ Hong Kong Economist of DBS Hong Kong, expected that a 60% tariff on China by the US would affect China's economy by 0.5-1%, and that equal stimulus is needed to withstand downside risks.

China's interest rate cuts since September and the introduction of stimulus measures should help China's economy to maintain 5% growth in 2024 and 2025, DBS Hong Kong said.

The Chinese economy will still face risks from various property markets, sustained weak demand and a possible escalation of the trade war, hence the adoption of supportive measures remain a top priority to offset these headwinds.
