The Thai government is proceeding with a bill to allow casinos to operate there, which is expected to be passed in 2025, Macquarie released a research report saying. Thailand's casino market has the potential to become Asia's second-largest gaming market, but after Macau, thanks to Thailand's strong tourism industry, the report quoted industry experts as saying. Thailand may initially issue 5 casino licenses, with two in Bangkok and one each in Pattaya, Chiang Mai and Phuket, according to the report. GALAXY ENT (00027.HK), MGM CHINA (02282.HK), Las Vegas Sands (LVS.US) and Wynn Resorts (WYNN.US) have already expressed interest, while SJM HOLDINGS (00880.HK) intended to focus its operations in Macau, as its priority remains to boost its Grand Lisboa Palace business.
