Shares with the Valuation System with Chinese Characteristics (VSCC) led the gains, with oil shares PETROCHINA (00857.HK) leaping 4.3% to become the best-performing blue chip, CNOOC (00883.HK) and SINOPEC CORP (00386.HK) each soaring nearly 3% and 2.4%. For Chinese telecoms, CHINA UNICOM (00762.HK) spiked 3.6%. CHINA MOBILE (00941.HK) jumped up 2.7%. CHINACOMSERVICE (00552.HK) shot up 6.8%. But CHINA TELECOM (00728.HK) dipped 0.4%. Gold miners ZIJIN MINING (02899.HK) and ZHAOJIN (01818.HK) both swelled more than 3%. Coal stocks CHINA SHENHUA (01088.HK) and CHINA COAL (01898.HK) each added 2.3% and 1.7%. Resources stocks CHALCO (02600.HK) and CMOC (03993.HK) climbed 2.7% and 4.2%.

For techs, TENCENT (00700.HK) faded 0.5% to close at $372.4. BIDU-SW (09888.HK), KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK), BABA-SW (09988.HK), NTES-S (09999.HK), MEITUAN-W (03690.HK), XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) and JD-SW (09618.HK) lost 0.4%-2.3%. BILIBILI-W (09626.HK) rose 0.2%.
